Today’s Country

Lainey Wilson will release a new studio album, Whirlwind, on August 23, and the red-hot country superstar has shared the record’s first single. “Hang Tight Honey” takes stock of Wilson’s remarkable rise to fame, like trading in the camper van she lived in upon moving to Nashville for a real-deal tour bus: “I got a bus 'fore I got a house/'Cause that's what dreams make you do.” The bright, groovy track also reassures a long-distance lover of Wilson’s true loyalties, with snappy, assured vocals reminiscent of Miranda Lambert. Wilson’s most recent LP is 2022’s Bell Bottom Country, which notched the Louisiana-born singer-songwriter a string of major awards, including the Grammy for Best Country Album. This playlist tracks what’s happening from the heart of the country scene to its outer edges. Check back here early and often, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
