Today, Germany’s First Gen artists explore deeper connections with their African roots. “When I started making music, it was soul-sample-based hip-hop that heavily influenced me,” hip-hop musician, producer and DJ Ghanaian Stallion tells Apple Music. “As time went on, my style evolved and I started to incorporate more and more African sounds into my music. I like to combine elements of hip-hop or current trends like drill music with traditional African sounds like highlife guitars and kalimbas.” He’s part of a growing number of artists who’ve embarked on transformative visits to the African continent, using what they hear to shape their sonic choices.
