The Restaurant

Stockholm VE Day 1945. In the jubilant crowd on Kungsgatan, a spontaneous kiss between two strangers will have dire consequences. The Löwander family who runs the restaurant Djurgårdskällaren feels the pressure on their business due to the effects of the war.

Mr Peter Löwander returns from military service in Europe accompanied by a Jewish girl named Suzanne Goldstein. Peter´s mother and the family´s “matriarch” Helga quietly resents her son´s new friend and ponders on what to do. Calle and Nina meet again. Will they be able to bring back the same intense feelings they experienced when they first met?

Gustaf and Helga prepare a jubilee celebrating the restaurant´s 50 year existence as a way of attracting customers. Against the wishes of her brother, Nina organizes a jazz event for a younger clientele in the restaurant’s empty banquet room. Peter finally confronts his brother about the economic situation of their business.

The Löwander family is shocked and shaken by an announcement from Peter and Suzanne. Peter´s ongoing conflict with the gangster Ragnarsson culminates with some serious consequences. Gustaf faces not only a potential prison sentence but an even more humiliating exposure that could totally ruin his reputation. Nina and Calle´s secret relationship is at a breaking point. Helga asks Peter for a big favour.

While Gustaf is held in police custody Peter takes over the role of restaurant manager at Djurgårdskällaren. Ragnarsson blackmails Peter by threatening Suzanne and the restaurant´s future is very much at stake. Calle makes a bad decision in regards to Nina. The head chef, Mr. Backe, shows some surprising new sides to his personality. Maggan and Lilly´s relationship deepens but are they risking too much by being together?

At this point everything is hanging by a thread. Peter and Nina are struggling to keep the restaurant afloat. Maggan is sick of how the staff at the restaurant are treated and puts up a fight for their rights. Gustaf gets released from jail and is starting to learn more about Suzanne’s painful secret. Calle finally gets his moment to shine in the kitchen, but is he really up for the challenge?
