“This slow burn, second chance, brother’s best friend romance was perfect.” -- Anna Reads Here

Ben Porter may be living the dream, but it’s not his.

His dad’s health scare might not be the ideal reason to come home for the summer, but it’s a welcome break from the stellar glitz of Ben’s life in Los Angeles. Even if modeling has him rivaling Marky Mark’s fame, posing isn’t his passion. Landing a role with a Boston Shakespeare theater brings him closer to fulfilling his dreams of being a real actor.

Facing the reason he went west in the first place? That’s another story.

Lucy Minola’s dreams were shattered seven years ago when a drunk driver smashed into her brother’s car. She knows it was her fault. So as penance, she works hard to care for her family, goes to confession faithfully, and buries all the feelings she had for the person who left when she needed him most: her brother’s best friend.

When an injured dog brings them back together, Lucy’s good-girl façade begins to crack. Women everywhere are obsessed with the rad bod they see in magazines, but she’s the only one Ben seems to notice.

She can’t trust herself with the man who walked away… but can she let him go a second time?

This bittersweet romance, Book #2 in Karen Grey’s 1980’s Boston Classics series, proves that everyone deserves a second chance in love and in life.

“It’s a charming second-chance romance featuring a cute dog, a gorgeous hero, a prickly heroine, mix-tapes, and enough eighties references for those of us of a certain age to get nostalgic over!... the superb narration is definitely worth the price of admission, and if you’re after a low-angst romance featuring a cute mutt, a hot model-turned-Shakespearian actor and the dog trainer he loves, then it might just be a perfect fit.” - AudioGals

Greet retro book

This is book 2 of the Boston Classic series - another fantastic retro stories taking us back to the 80’s.

This second chance-brothers best friend romance is a great read filled with nostalgia, laughs and smokin hot chemistry.

Ben and Lucy have a history that’s been a secret between the two for many years. They both have some baggage they are trying to work through along with some hurt…but they can’t fight their attraction to one another. They are both amazing people that always put others ahead of themselves.

Karen writes great books that take us back - phones with long cords and mix tapes are just a few mentioned in the story.

Emma Wilder and Brian Pallino do a fantastic job with the narration. They bring amazing emotion, accents and a variety of voices to these characters. The 80’s twang is awesome!!

I liked the 80’s music references at the beginning g of each chapter. Also, during the flashbacks there was the sound is a tape rewinding that added to the audio experience.

Stand alone 80s fun

This is a stand alone novel, but if you haven't already read What I'm Looking For you should pick the audio version of that up too. There's just a little overlap between characters, but I think part of the reason I liked Forget About Me so much is because I really liked the first in the series. I'm not a big fan of 2nd Chance or flashbacks, so if you are a fan of those you'd like this as a stand alone.

I loved the puppy and the references that people who remember the 80s will recognize (like Benji). I listened to the audio version and the performances by Emma Wilder and Brian Pallino are fabulous. I highly recommend this series to people who remember the 80s.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, and the opinions here are my own.

Tragedy torn apart & brought back together

Ben Porter is a model in LA. This is a profession he stumbled upon when he fled home 7 years ago, but he wants to be an actor.
Lucy Minola is the girl who got away…well…I guess the girl he got away from. While she spends her days as a vet tech, she also devotes her life to taking care of her family, regular confession, & apparently has a knack for dog training.

Lucy and Ben had an intense & short lived romance 7 years ago, but were torn apart with the death of Lucy’s brother/Ben’s best friend, Tony. They both feel intense grief & guilt over the car accident that killed him. And his death is what ultimately tore them apart.

When Ben comes home when his dad had a heart attack, he decides to stay a while & help out. He finds an injured dog on his doorstep, & when he takes him to the vet, he’s pleasantly surprised to see Lucy working there. Ben has landed a role in the local Shakespearean theater with Will & has auditioned with Puck (the injured dog) as his sidekick. But Puck’s need for training is Ben’s in to spend time with Lucy.

When these two come back together, they almost pick up where they left off emotionally. It’s like neither has moved on in the past 7 years, they just need to find out if they’re still as comparable as they once were. Seeing them come back together also means that they are back in each other’s families lives. Two families who have suffered the same grief over the years from the loss of Tony. As the story progresses, the characters grow & work through their grief. They find happiness in their professional & personal life & begin to move forward towards happiness together.

Audiobook Review:
Emma Wilder & Brian Pallino we’re phenomenal in this narration. Both had an emotional pull and had me immersed in the story line.
