"Rick Mofina has penned a creepy, heart-pounding page-turner…. A gripping, chilling thriller from beginning to end."
—Heather Gudenkauf, New York Times bestselling author of The Overnight Guest
Every mother worries about their child. But Sara Harmon fears hers…
When a teen falls while taking a selfie at the edge of a cliff, the last thing she sees before plummeting to her death is Katie Harmon, the nine-year-old girl she was babysitting, looking down at her.
Investigators gather at the scene, and Katie’s mother, Sara, rushes to comfort her daughter. Yet there’s a small, secret ping of alarm in Sara’s heart that she cannot share—though rookie detective Kim Pierce senses it.
For years, others have tried to unravel this secret. From true-crime podcasters to a haunted journalist searching for a killer who vanished after being released from prison several years ago. And now, with detectives tightening the focus of their investigation, Sara is consumed by her darkest fear—that the babysitter’s death was not an accident.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
This plodding outing from Mofina (If Angels Fall) opens with 17-year-old Anna Shaw clinging to a branch on the side of a cliff in a Washington State park. She calls to Katie Harmon, the nine-year-old girl she's babysitting, to run for help, but by the time rescuers arrive, Anna lies dead on the rocks below. Rookie detective Kim Pierce leads the investigation: while her fellow officers are quick to rule the death an accident, Pierce digs deeper and comes to suspect Katie pushed Anna to her death. Was it an accident or was it cold-blooded murder? Meanwhile, in parallel subplots, a team of true-crime aficionados pursue a serial killer, a young man searches for his long-lost sister, and Katie's mother hides a troubling family secret. Eventually, all the stories collide. A few clever twists along the way fail to make up for uneven pacing and some rough jumps between timelines and points of view. This promising slow burn fails to ignite.

Decent
This book is definitely lacking compared to some of his others. It wasn’t thrilling or fast paced. Why would any detective latch o to one suspect with tunnel vision? Read his other books first.
Enjoyed!!!!!
My Review:
Wow!!!!! Gripping!!!!! Shocked!!!!! These are just a few words that I would use to describe this awesome book. This author is a new one for me. Like always I was hesitant to pick it up since you never know what to expect. I am so grateful that I did though. It was like opening up a great gift on Christmas morning. The excitement was definitely there. There are so many things I want to say about this book but let’s start off with that I enjoyed it very much. This book had everything I look for in a fantastic read. It had a variety of characters, a story line that kept me interested and of course my favorite a heart attack of an ending. I couldn’t have asked for a better read. On the flip side I do have to agree with some of the other reviews I read about this book with it starting off slow. To me this wasn’t a deterrent and I looked at it as a plus since I got to find out more information about everything and everyone in the book. I will definitely be reading more of this authors books and recommending it to everyone I know.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
