Ratings and Reviews
See AllGood start, needs a few more features
Love the app so far, however it would be great if I can scan the barcode of a product and that information populates automatically rather than me staring at a label and inputting it manually. More control over the measurements as well, I had to input MG for something that was MCG, for example 7 mg instead of 7mcg. Allow us to type the number in rather than pressing the plus or minus sign. Some measurements allowed decimal points while some were only whole numbers, I think decimal points should be on all of them as not all vitamins measure the same. A vitamin “diary” or calendar view so I know which days I took which supplements. A daily dashboard so I know how much of a certain vitamin/mineral I have taken for the day, based on the daily nutrition value, so that I don’t overdose.
Developer Response ,
First, thank you for the review. It matters to us. Now, to your comments.
Lookup product by barcode is great but huge feature for us, Martspec is not yet at the size to do it. Pretty much it would require to cooperate with whoever has all data on products.
Units are taken from Apple Health, some nutrients in MG, others are in MCG. However, we did notice that some products do not follow what Apple sets as standard. For sync with Apple Health to work the units need to match what Apple sets there. It just would not take units other than it wants.
Buttons plus/minus have acceleration. If you tap and hold it would go faster. Idea to have buttons implies closer experience to Apple Watch. However, typing number might be easier. We need to discuss it with designer. No promises here.
Decimal points only appear on nutrients that are measured in small values. Others, such has vitamin C or A usually measured in hundreds and decimal point does not appear there. This behavior similar to all devices and really helpful on Apple Watch where screen real estate is limited.
The vitamin "diary" or calendar is something we want to do, yet do not know how that should look and feel. Also, with recent announcement Apple made at WWDC 22 with the new app drug scheduler I think they address both items: scheduler and barcode scanner. I have not yet seen it, but if that what they claim it -- competing agains Apple would like playing cards agains Casino.
For each nutrients there is MAX value that you can enter, the values is taken from the nutrients book I used in College. However, currently if you enter multiple values at the same day you would have multiple records. App checks each record but not sum of values for the 24h period. Yes, this is not too awesome. It does make sense to sum values up for the day. Adding to the roadmap.
Simple app - Great Dev Team
I recently found the Vitamin app when doing research on simple and easy to use third-party apps that integrate with the Apple Health app. A lot of the apps I found in the past have been too overcomplicated, trying to do too many things at once. Vitamin is an extremely simple and streamlined app that I have found to be incredibly straightforward and easy to use. There are definitely a few more features and tweaks that could be made to really bring out the potential of this app, and typically when an app is in that stage of development, it is extremely hard to offer feedback or get in touch with the necessary teams to make recommendations. When I suggested including an apple shortcuts integration, I got a response within a couple hours, letting me know that I had a fantastic idea and that my suggestion would be forwarded to the appropriate team. So far, this feels like a development team that truly cares about the quality of the app that they’re building and wants to maintain full integrity with it. I will 100% be continuing to use this app and I’m looking forward to seeing how it continues to develop and grow. I would strongly suggest giving it a try.
Suggestion
I really like the idea of this app. I just wish I didn’t have to manually type in each one. If this app was connected to an app like cronometer then I could just track my food in the cronometer app and it would be automatically updated into this app. saving me a considerable amount of time I can see myself not using this app in the future, due to having to type in everything individually every day. Since I already have to track my food it would just make it that much easier. I hope you consider to work with a company like cronometer since I love being able to just scan the barcode of my food and go.
Developer Response ,
Thank you so much for your honest feedback! We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts about our app.
We understand your frustration with having to manually input your food entries. This is something we are concidering because on different day doses might differ a lot and pushing those buttons might be not the best approach. Initiall idea was that inputs do not change much and with such inputs it easier to keep error free. In January in the reminders we have already added free-text field where one can type values.
Integrating with external apps like Cronometer is definitely something worth considering, and we're exploring potential partnerships and integrations to streamline the tracking process.
We are small startup with only one mobile app engineer and 7 apps, trying to do our best to server all apps as quickly as we can while still putting priorities on quality over delivery times.
✅ We hear you loud and clear – saving time and making healthy habits easier is crucial. While we can't confirm specific integrations just yet, please know that we're actively exploing solutions to make the app even more convenient for you.
