Jackson+Sellers is the collaborative project of Jade Jackson and Aubrie Sellers, two acclaimed fixtures of Nashville’s songwriting scene. As individuals, each artist makes country-tinged Americana rock that sits firmly left of the genre’s center, making for a pairing that is at once fresh and dynamic while also being something of a no-brainer. Breaking Point is their duo debut, crossing off, with its release, a bucket-list item for both artists, who wrote new material and recorded covers of a handful of their favorite songs for the project. Standouts include the hypnotizing new tune “Hush,” a lullabye-esque look at romantic longing with a building arrangement and complex vocal interplay from the two vocalists, as well as a muscular cover of Julie Miller’s “The Devil Is an Angel,” which trades the bluesy acoustic stomp of Miller’s version for screaming guitars and a driving punk beat.
