Pure Jazz

Pure Jazz

Who comes to mind when you hear a phrase like “pure jazz”? If your first instinct conjures up the sounds of all-time greats like Miles, Nina, Coltrane, or Herbie, you’re in good company. These are but a few of the master-level musicians also selected by the man some would call the face of jazz today, Robert Glasper. The Houston, Texas-hailing pianist and composer, who’s amassed some 14 Grammy nominations across a still burgeoning 20-year career, curated a selection of personal favorites in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month. Glasper, himself, is of course renowned for pushing jazz culture forward with each new release. And in jazz—as is the case with most art forms—to know where things are going, one must also understand where they’ve been. Luckily for us, he’s got a rock-solid grasp on both. Listen to this Robert Glasper-curated edition of Pure Jazz, the playlist focused on the more traditional side of jazz, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
