Teaching Prepares you for Success Everywhere
Our final Podcast of the season. “Those who can do; those who can’t teach.” This quote from George Bernard Shaw stubbornly endures. And yet many of us attribute at least one inspirational teacher for our current successes. We greatly underestimate the unique skills of teachers.
This week’s guest, Cyndi Zacheis, shares how her experience in the classroom prepared her for everything outside the classroom.
EQ At Work features interviews with people who have overcome significant difficulties by using the concepts of emotional intelligence.

Who Cares at the End of Life
Research suggests that about 5% of the population has had a Near Death Experience (NDE). Experiencers often show a marked change afterward: they become more open and caring. In this episode, Edythe talks with her guest, Ilene Thorman, about how her NDE launched a career in hospice and end-of-life care.

Unintentional Leadership
Some people don’t necessarily set out to become leaders, but they fall into the role. While these leaders are no less effective than “intentional” leaders, they may suffer from unintended consequences, like imposter syndrome and self-doubt.
In this episode, Cindy Messaros, Director of Alberta, Canada, Workforce Essential Skills Society, talks about her own midlife career change, being a high performer with little direction, and single motherhood.

NLD - An Invisible Disability
Nonverbal Learning Disorder (NLD/NVLD) is a complicated and poorly understood “invisible” disability. Though “NLD’ers” may struggle with a number of issues, difficulty with social skills – understanding subtle cues and abstract concepts – is a main feature. Edythe’s guest, Geoff Hoppe, recently diagnosed with NLD, is an advocate bringing awareness to this often misunderstood and misdiagnosed subject. In this episode, Geoff shares what it’s like to live with NLD, as well as strategies for relating to NLD’ers.
