Narrower in scope and less focused
Although Gamei Hitsuji gives us very little in new discoveries, this next installment broadens the political environment to give us a picture, albeit vague, of the relationships among empires. Many concepts we enjoyed from the first volume (ancient scriptures, side hobbies of our MC, mana cultivation) seem to get less attention to make room for a few new characters and explores a terrible consequence of using magic. The whole volume feels like a framing device that connects us to a great macro-mystery that is almost ready to present itself.
I will look forward to volume 3 with great hope and anticipation.
