About Witchfinder General
Drawing its name from the 1968 Vincent Price-starring thriller of the same name, Witchfinder General was part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) in the early ‘80s, a movement that would strongly influence subsequent (and more successful) acts, particularly Metallica. Though Witchfinder General was most notorious for its album covers, which featured half-naked women being menaced by religious zealots, the group was later acknowledged as a pioneering doom-metal band. Although it split in ’83, the ensemble reunited in 2006, albeit without original singer Zeeb Parkes.
