Publisher Description

Dr. Melody Mayberry’s life just took a turn that’s left her questioning everything. Where better to hide out than the remote family cabin in the mountains? The last thing she expects to find there is her swoon-worthy brother-in-law, the one man who may have more baggage than her.

Finn Matthews is not ready to face the fact that the recent injury he sustained in a fire may have ended his firefighting career. He’s not interested in sharing the cabin with anyone, let alone Melody, and their family just texted with yet another unwelcome surprise—they’ll be there Christmas Eve.

To keep their meddling family at bay, the two team up to fake a little holiday cheer. But between ridiculously competitive Monopoly games, marathon Christmas decorating, and a storm that strands them together with nothing but a fire and a warm couch, they realize something major—their fake holiday cheer isn’t feeling so fake anymore, and that’s something neither of these two Grinches expected…

Snowed in with the Firefighter

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

I am a little torn on this one. I enjoyed getting to know and reading about the road to a HEA for both Finn Matthews and Dr. Melody Mayberry. The questionable part to me, not knowing the conflict that Melody feels guilty about with separating Molly and Ben (a couple from The Firefighter's Pretend Fiancee). I didn't read that story and it really played a part here in this one. I felt the author really should have done a better job of getting the reader into that to situation to fully understand Melody better. I understood the part that the mother played in causing such mayhem and destruction between the three girls but not the part of previously mentioned separation of Molly and Ben.

Melody is on a forced vacation. The last baby that she delivered died and caused such mental anguish that Melody is questioning if she could continue in her field of OB/GYN. She goes to her sister's and brother-in-law's cabin (Molly and Ben) for Christmas solitude. When she arrives, there is Molly's brother-in-law, Finn Matthews. He has been recuperating there for some time. He was injured during a fire in a rescue of a little boy. When he was initially injured, he almost didn't make it. His leg has not healed properly and he frustrated as he wants to get back to his beloved job but knowing that his leg isn't 100% and being a firefighter, that could be deadly.

I loved how this was written in a dual POV format. Having two protagonist who are mentally struggling with issues, it is a must to help in understanding their actions and speech.

This is a clean romance with just kissing involved. I would recommend reading the prior The Firefighter's Pretend Fiancee first before reading this one to really enjoy it more.

Great sweet romance

Sweet romance is a tricky sub genre for me, as the story and connection to and between the characters has to be strong enough to off-set the lack of on-page physicality. But Victoria James is one of those authors that has such great character development that you feel the emotions in the storytelling and dialogue more so.
Finn and Melody are a great couple, each dealing with their own issues but quickly opening up to help the other. Of course, they’re each still closed off to their own problems, which can be frustrating. While this is book seven in the Shadow Creek series, it can be read as a stand-alone alone. I think Ms. James has done a good job of filling in some background family issues that have been dealt with in other books, but its always fun to see couples who previously got together make cameo appearances.
So whether this is your first book or you e read the whole series, Snowed in with the Firefighter is not only a great holiday story but an enjoyable romance for any time of the year.
