    • Sports

Burnout, lack of boundaries, and an unhealthy diet are just some of the things we battle while we are focused on having a successful career. We’ve all been there. Including Chioma Atanmo, Founder, Nutritionist & Wellness Coach for Mindful Appetite. Not only does Chioma run her own business, she is also the Manager of Community Programs for Sporting Kansas City.

You don’t want to miss my conversation with Chioma as we talk about:
What you can do to avoid the dreaded burnout  How you can set boundaries with your manager  What managers can do to help their team avoid burnout  Why and how you should train people to understand how you want to be treated  How you can manage a crazy schedule and your nutrition

Welcome to Mindful Appetite! I’m so glad you are here, whether you are curious about my background to help you or just being nosey, I'm thankful for your time.  I was born and raised in the Bay Area, California and moved to Arizona at 16.  Arizona quickly became my second home where I got my  degree in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Arizona (#BEARDOWN) and the birthplace of my career. I'm currently based in Kansas City, MO where I run my online coaching business, and I also work full time for Sporting Kansas City, a Major League Soccer team.

But let's rewind, before I became fascinated by the complexities of food and the body. Growing up, exercise your physique was always the focus. I played soccer, volleyball and ran track competitively. I was fit and healthy, so I thought…But suffered from chronic allergies, fatigue, constant injuries, debilitating migraines, low self-esteem, and yo-yo dieting, well into college. And being an athlete, I feel like we're taught to ignore how our bodies really feel in the name of being dedicated to your sport.  I thought that was normal or the price to pay for being an athlete.

It wasn’t until I discovered a large tumor in my breast (that was thankfully benign) that shifted my perspective on how everything from your food, to your thoughts, to your daily movement, can impact your health no matter your background. Food became more than just medicine, it became daily communication to my body. In combination with mobility training, weight lifting,  mindful eating and and learning how to listen to my body, the symptoms started to go away.

As I navigated my own health journey, I wanted to stay connected to the game of soccer I love. So I began working with collegiate and professional athletes in Arizona as a nutritionist and fitness coach. And quickly saw how other athletes as they transitioned into life after sport were going through the same struggles I was. This is when Mindful Appetite was birthed to also help busy professionals.

Now I’m not saying I have all the answers. But I do believe each of us hold the power to take control of our health again. The decisions we make every day about our food, mental health, and physical activity can alter our genetics and how we exist on this Earth.  And hopefully encourage you to take action and ownership about your health so you can go on and inspire those around you. Because we thrive when we are well and work together!

When I’m not testing out recipes or products, you can find me practicing my headstand, frequenting local coffee shops (black coffee is my jam), watching a soccer or tennis, wine tast
