Excellent taste, relaxed vibes

I listen to most podcasts at 1.5 but this one at normal speed. Which is high praise, in my opinion. The hosts have great taste (especially Helgeson) and the format manages to be relaxing and informative at the same time.

A thorough dissection of music albums

This is the podcast for all music lovers! The format is really simple: Matt Helgeson brings on a guest to discuss two albums of their choosing in great detail. I appreciate the wide array of musical styles that they showcase from different genres and time periods. Honestly, the variety is what keeps me coming back as I always feel compelled to leave my comfort zone with artists and albums I’m not familiar with that they feature on their show. The passion and insight that they bring to the albums they discuss is truly refreshing. The long-form content is great too, as they include track snippets that lead into hearty discussions. Definitely great for those with keen ears for details. Do not skip out on this if this remotely sounds like something you’d enjoy!
Good Pod

I enjoying the format of this podcast. Keeping the focus on two albums does a great job at bringing out interesting and detailed discussions. The selections feel so very random, but overall a good mix of music that the hosts and guests are passionate about. The Van Halen episode is amazing.
I like it

While I take umbrage to Matt calling Misery a "third-tier Soul Asylum song," I won't hold that against him too much. Great discussions, insight, and often quite funny. I look forward to seeing this go forward, and shoutout to Jason!
Just what I needed

Only now catching up to MinnTrax, and I am loving it. Sticking to episodes where I know at least one of the records well, at least to start, and what a joy. Matt knows a hell of a lot (can’t believe how much i learned new about It Takes A Nation of Millions) about his picks and comes at his guests’ choices openly. Jason’s a hoot, too, nice when the producer adds so much.
Fantastic Perspective

I’m a fan of music and a fan of Matt Helegeson, so it’s the best of both worlds.
Great reason to listen to new stuff

Love the podcast, has led me to listen to things I never would have heard otherwise! One piece of feedback: play the music more often and for longer chunks! I love what you guys have to say but it’s nice to also hear the music and put it in context, especially when I have never heard the song or even the band before.
Great music podcast

Matt Helgeson has the perfect podcast voice and paces conversation well. Producer Jason does a great job, and he offers observations that help guide the conversation. I’m not a big music person, but it is perfect for helping me understand music more intimately
