As a life long MK & A fan, this podcast is all that I could ask for and here is why: 1) It is extremely thorough. Episodes go chronologically through their career and deep dive into every topic along the way. 2) The hosts always respect Mary Kate and Ashley first and foremost and discuss them as you would a sister or close friend. 3) Becca and Lani are so charming and authentic, you will feel like you are chilling with 2 friends geeking out over your 2 favorite celebrities from childhood. All Mary Kate and Ashley fans have to check it out!

As Mary-Kate and Ashley’s birthday approaches, I desperately needed something to get in the celebratory spirit. I had no idea this podcast existed, or that people knew so much more than me about my childhood heroes. I am so thrilled by the modern breakdown of their career- this podcast is perfection to me, and I’m so excited to wander into nostalgia, but from an adult perspective!

Pre-teen dreams

I can’t tell you how much I love this podcast! As a little girl, I was OBSESSED with MKA. I am a year younger than them and would just go nuts when they released a new project. This podcast is like hanging out with two friends and waxing nostalgic about our favorite famous twins. It’s brought back so many memories I had, not only about them but about my own life during these times in the 90s and early 2000s which honestly has been so amazing and comforting. It’s also made me think about the twins’ career through a new lens and how we treat celebrities. My love for the Olsen twins is totally validated by this pod! Update: May 2024 I’ve come to think of this pod as a comfort listen, much in the way Two of a Kind is a comfort watch. I was at work yesterday, sort of uncomfortable, bored, feeling weird, and I was like “I want to feel like I’m wrapped up in a cozy blanket, on my couch, sipping coffee, while it rains outside.” And that’s how this pod makes me feel. Lani and Becca have absolutely become my MKA parasocial friends who I wish I had in real life (I have 0 MKA friends). I’m just glad these two decided to dissect literally everything about MKA the way I seemed to do when I was a tween/teen. I was obsessed. Maybe am still obsessed? Either way, this is the best pod. 💕
Fascinating recontextualization
04/24/2024
I wasn’t a HUGE MK&A kid growing up, but I am a couple weeks younger than them, so their media and the cultural perception of them shaped my life. This show does a great job recontextualizing their lives and work. I especially appreciate the cultural criticism of the safety of working children and the way American society interacts with famous children and youth. I highly recommend, not just to grown up fans but also to anyone interested in media criticism!
