Publisher Description

As society gathers at Kingstag Castle for the wedding of the year, matrimony is in the air. But who will be the bride? With swoonworthy lords, witty ladies, eccentric relatives, a gaggle of free-spirited girls, not to mention the world's best high perch phaeton, it's a recipe for mayhem — and romance. Award winning, best-selling authors Katharine Ashe, Caroline Linden, Miranda Neville and Maya Rodale serve up delectable Regency fun and a sexy contemporary twist in this anthology of original novellas.

Four authors, four couples, four deliciously romantic surprises. When it comes to love, anything can happen…

That Rogue Jack by Maya Rodale

Jack, Lord Willoughby is charming, handsome, and utterly irresponsible. In other words, he's the worst person to entrust with the ducal wedding ring. Miss Henrietta Black is prim, proper and the ideal person to help find the priceless family heirloom that's gone missing… as long as she isn't distracted by Jack's gorgeous smile and tantalizing attempts at seduction. They MUST find the ring before the wedding… if they aren't too busy falling in love.

PS. I Love You by Miranda Neville

Handsome, inarticulate Frank Newnham asks for his cousin Christian's help when he woos Rosanne Lacy by letter. Rosanne falls for Frank's delicious prose, but when they meet in person at the duke's wedding party, Rosanne can't understand why Frank seems so ... dull. And why is she drawn to the dark brooding Earl of Bruton, with his scarred face and air of melancholy?

When I Met My Duchess by Caroline Linden

Gareth Cavendish, Duke of Wessex, believes he's chosen the perfect bride… until he meets her sister and lightning strikes—literally! Now he's the only member of society dreading the wedding of the season. Or is he? Cleo Barrows can't fathom why her knees weaken every time the handsome duke approaches, or why her sister isn't in the clouds at the prospect of marrying him. But the more often wedding plans throw Cleo and Gareth intimately together, the faster time is running out to turn the celebration of the summer into the scandal of the year.

Love and Fun

At the Duke’s Wedding is a collection of four charming regency romance stories featuring guests at the house party leading up to the wedding of the Duke of Wessex.

That Rogue Jack by Maya Rodale is a rollicking tale of the search for the wedding ring for the Duke’s bride. His cousin, Lord Jack Willoughby, was responsible for the ring lost it. He teams up with Henrietta Black, companion to the Duke’s great-great aunt Lady Sophronia. Their search is a hilarious adventure. Henrietta has her hands full keeping Jack focused on their objective. Will they find the ring before the wedding? Will the time they spend together bring them together for a different purpose?

There is a tip of the hat to Cyrano de Bergerac in Miranda Neville’s P. S. I Love You. Frank Newnham is handsome, popular with his regiment, and sought after by ladies of all ages. He is, however, very shy and finds it difficult to talk to ladies, especially the one he wants to court. They have permission to correspond, but he doesn’t know what to say or how to say it. He enlists the aid of his cousin, Captain Christian Lord Bruton, who writes the letters Frank sends to Miss Rosanne Lacy. The letters are wonderful. When they arrive at the Duke of Wessex’s wedding, things do not go as they expected. Rosanne loved the letters, but is confused and disappointed in Frank. What will happen if Rosanne discovers that Christian wrote the letters? How will the three of them handle such a situation?

Why do the bride and groom look like they would rather be somewhere else? Why does James Blair, the Duke’s cousin, act as though he has lost his best friend? In When I Met My Duchess, Caroline Linden introduces the bride, Miss Helen Grey, her parents, and her sister Mrs. Cleo Barrows. Gareth, the Duke, has trouble connecting with his bride, and the problem seems to be mutual. He doesn’t have the same problem with Cleo. From the moment he sees her, he is fascinated. This could be a problem, or will it? Will the wedding day be the beginning of a happily ever after or a disaster, and for whom?

How far does a girl have to go to find the love of her life. In How Angela Got Her Rogue Back by Katherine Ashe, our heroine, Angela Cowdrey, travels two hundred years into the past. She actually meets her love in a black and white comic book, the last page of which asks her to come back. Come back? When Lord Trenton Ascot rescues a drowning woman from the lake on the Duke of Wessex’s estate, he has no idea how his life and that of his family will change. Is it possible for two people from different times find a lasting love? When Angela disappears, will Trenton be able to forget her, or will he be able to find a way to get her back?

This is a wonderful set of novellas by a talented group of authors. I recommend it to anyone who likes historical romance.

Intertwined anthology

This is an anthology of four interwoven novellas, all taking place during the same event - a house party thrown to celebrate the wedding of a duke. I generally prefer full length books over novellas, since novellas often seem rushed and wrap up too quickly or conveniently. Done well, however, they can be delightful. I especially enjoy interwoven stories like this! They are written by four different authors, so have distinct writing styles, but the way the characters appear in all the stories really binds them together cohesively.

The first novella, That Rougue Jack, by Maya Rodale is delightful, light and humorous, and with relatively little “amorous activity” which novellas can sometimes rely too much on. It also sets the stage for the following three, introducing us to the setting and other characters.

The second story, P.S. I Love You, by Miranda Neville, takes a different tone and starts us out in a new setting, which was a little jarring at first. Still lovely, but a bit predictable. The hero is great in this story, though.

Third is When I Met My Duchess, by Caroline Linden, and by now you’re waiting to find out what’s happening to the duke and his wedding, because it’s been hinted at! This one is a little more steamy, and that felt a little shoehorned in. The rest of the story was great though!

Last is How Angela Got Her Rogue Back, by Katharine Ashe. I was not expecting this plot at all, and I won’t give it away - but it’s a good read, except there was a lot of steam in this for such a short story. Of the four stories, this was my least favorite.

Overall a well worthwhile anthology!
