692 | Love Yourself First To Then Love Others with John Lawyer

In this episode, we speak with Spiritual Guide and Coach, John Lawyer. From desert combat zones (12 years in Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan) to a battle within, John transformed from soldier to spiritual seeker. He acts as one of several guides for Kishar, a non-profit online spiritual community for people to share their journey and explore their own unique spiritual path. John is an Omnist and believes in the validity of great human thought from around the world and across time. He offers individual spiritual guidance and coaching services as part of the Kishar Spiritual Community.

    In this episode, we discuss:
    1) John’s story of spending 12 years as a counter-intelligence agent, in desert combat zones, coming home wounded, with physical trauma, and PTSD, coming home and then feeling completely unsure of what to do next. He had his own spiritual awakening which led to him feeling his purpose was to create a spiritual community based on human kindness and caring for others.

    2) Through the creation of their spiritual app and channel, they offer community membership and individual spiritual guidance and coaching. The lesson he shared hit home, “love yourself first, love yourself most and then you can love everyone more.

691 | Your Superpowers Are So Close

691 | Your Superpowers Are So Close

In this episode, we talk about superpowers, limiting beliefs and how they are interconnected.  I am inviting you into a new way of thinking, it is not the right way, the only way, is my perspective and I want to share it with you. To determine your superpowers, think about what people come to you for, and check out your past performance reviews. Read the recommendations and testimonials people write for you. What themes emerge? These themes point to your strengths.

    In this episode, we discuss:
    1) Take note of what people say about you. Notice strengths that carry through to different situations. Identify what gives you energy, what lights you up and make it your personal brand. Let that light shine bright, we are great at doing this for others, now it is time to do it for ourselves.

    2) What a superpower is and how a limiting belief is blocking you from shining in your full light with your gifts and superpowers. I share the story of becoming OUTSPOKEN and how I hid that superpower for so long.

690 | Board Breaking to Release Your Limiting Beliefs

690 | Board Breaking to Release Your Limiting Beliefs

In this episode, we talk about the board-breaking exercise to release limiting beliefs and take a moment to celebrate how far you’ve come. Board breaking is a metaphor, an empowering exercise to break through your perceived limitations in your life.  I have done this exercise a few times and it looks easy, but it is not.  I wanted to share an experience of breaking a board I had in my NLP Master Practitioner over 18 months ago and how it shifted me to release those limiting beliefs.  This is a reminder to look back at how far you’ve come.

    In this episode, we discuss:
    1) Breaking a board starts with modelling and we can learn a lot about someone’s behaviour through modelling.  This is not copying someone else’s behaviour, this is looking at their patterns, behaviours and communication to see how someone else is creating change and then modelling their behaviour.  It is also about getting into the state and the power of our state changing our mood, energy and therefore our results.

    2) I recently revisited my old board and was shocked to see what I wrote down as the limiting beliefs I held onto so tightly in 2022.

689 | Learning to Navigate When Life Is Rough with Liz Long

689 | Learning to Navigate When Life Is Rough with Liz Long

In this episode, we are speaking with Author, Liz Long. In 1968, Liz Long's life took a tragic turn when a close family member, Lynda White, went missing, pushing six-year-old Liz into a shitstorm of epic proportions. Five agonizing years later, Lynda's body was discovered. Her case stands as one of Canada's longest unsolved crimes.
At fifty-eight, Liz confronted her adult depression by checking into an inpatient treatment center for healing. With unwavering grit and a touch of humor, Liz untangled the complexities of her past, realizing that childhood coping mechanisms were never meant to be permanent.
Now, at the forefront of mental health advocacy, Liz shares her journey and introduces the world to “Victimtown” through her book, Navigating Shitstorms: How to Find Your True Path When Life Gets Rough. In this poignant narrative, she creates spaces like The Control Factory, The Guilt & Shame Café, The Denial Trails, and more, inspiring others to confront their own storms, discover resilience within and find their way to Freedomville.

    In this episode, we discuss:
    1)  Liz shared her story of the shitty life circle, how we cannot control what happens to us, we can’t stop shit from happening, but we can learn how to respond better to what is happening to us, that is where we take our power back and how we move out of Victimtown as Liz calls it.

    2) Childhood Coping Mechanisms Are Not Meant to be Permanent: Liz emphasizes the importance of recognizing that the coping mechanisms developed during childhood were adaptive responses to specific situations. However, these strategies might not serve us well in adulthood, and understanding this can be a crucial step toward personal growth and mental health.

688 | Do You Wire Your Brain For Judgement?

688 | Do You Wire Your Brain For Judgement?

In this episode, we talk about the awareness of if you are wiring your brain for judgment, criticism or comparison as it relates to social media use.  I recently heard a quote on the Growth Day App with Brendon Bouchard, the link to try it out is below.

    In this episode, we discuss:
    1) Judgments and decisions saturate people's lives. Most people scroll past 1000 posts a day which means you have wired your brain for judgment comparison and contempt 1000 times over on a minimum per day. This is with 1-2 hours of scrolling per day.

    2) How can you become more intentional with your time online and what you are consuming and continue to consciously interrupt your subconscious patterns so you do not wire your brain for all of the things that you do not want to wire it for?

687 | Speak Your Vision to Life

687 | Speak Your Vision to Life

In this episode, we talk about how important it is to speak your vision to life, focusing on what do you see, what do you hear, what do you feel, and then detaching from how it happens and comes to life. The how is not up to you.  I share a personal example of how I blew past my Q1 goals for 2024, even after I almost felt like quitting.

    In this episode, we discuss:
    1)  Speak life into where you are going as opposed to where you have been. Feed your energy into your future and what you are creating, and set your goals with who you will be or who you are becoming in the end not who you are today.

    2) Don’t be afraid to let things incubate until they are ready to be released.  No more pushing or forcing ideas here, it is about letting them breathe and come to life when they are ready.

Great solo shows, too!

I really enjoy Marsha’s podcast! She digs down deep, not only with her guests and drawing out their story authentically, but in her solo shows, too. Episode #672 “Resiliency Is Never Fun In The Moment” is a gem! She deconstructs how to build resiliency through experience and reframe life’s challenging moments. Game Changer!
