Description

How fast is your Wifi?

Online performance tests will tell you how fast your Internet connection is overall, but your service provider's speed is not the only factor: Wifi itself can significantly affect speed, latency and reliability. And with broadband Internet connections getting faster and faster, Wifi usually already is the bottleneck.

This app requires an iPerf 3 server and will help you set it up on your computer. You will then be able to test your Wifi connection in isolation of your Internet connection across your home or office and tell your exactly what bandwidth you can expect in every room. You can then adjust your settings and move access points around or decide to upgrade your equipment until you achieve super solid Wifi.

If you are already familiar with iPerf 3, here is what you can expect from this app:

* tiny: the app only embeds the iPerf library and UI code

* modern: based on the latest open source stable iPerf 3.6 codebase

* stable: we ran extensive tests to assess stability and give you the most accurate performance numbers

* fast: the app has been tested for memory leaks, does all the processing in a background thread and has been analysed with Instruments to make it as fast as we can

* simple: the UI is really simple and maps straight to iPerf command line parameters, and the embedded help section will assist you in getting started and provide advice on how to achieve the best possible Wifi performance

* open source: no surprises, you can look at the source code on GitHub which is what we use to build the app

Well made simple and robust tool

This is how the utility app of its class should look like: simple design, no gradients/chrome/animation/ads/pop up buttons/achievements/etc.

It is called iPerf. It does provide interface to iPerf. It’s stable like an iceberg and highly efficient. User interface is minimalistic: sufficient to get the job done. Nothing superfluous. “Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” — Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

And it’s free. I’d happily pay for it, but it seems there is no way to.

That's the spirit, thanks for taking the time to write a review :)

Simple and works great. One more feature would be nice

I run an iPerf server on a NAS and on a tiny linux server, both wired, and this tool makes it dead easy to check Wi-Fi performance on different APs and in different rooms.

The only additional feature I’d like would be to have a list of multiple servers that I could choose from, instead of needing to remember and type them in when I want to change servers.

Nicely done, works well, and no unnecessary ‘features’!

I installed iperf3 on a home based Mac-mini server earlier today, connected via a Thunderbolt Gigabit (Ethernet) adapter, then left iperf3 running there in server mode... Later running this client app on an iPad has worked great to test the Wi-Fi in different areas, aside from whatever speeds your ISP may be providing. Thanks for this simple but very useful utility!
