E37: Barbara Butler: How to Build a Business with Impact

Barbara Butler is the founder and CEO of Barbara Butler Artist-Builder Inc. She has

been designing and building extraordinary custom tree houses and play structures

for children for over 30 years, both residential and commercial, within the United

States and internationally. Her mom wanted her to be a lawyer, but she loved

working with her hands. School breaks were spent working for her brothers

learning bricklaying and construction. After graduate school, she gave up on the

idea of getting a real job and moved to San Francisco to be an artist. She started

painting, then building decks, then landed her first play structure job working for

Bobby McFerrin (“Don’t Worry/Be Happy”). And that was it! Her passion! That

was 30 years ago, and she is still loving it, and still a kid at heart!
