8 Black Hands

Deep in the heart of public school education wars rage on, and few warriors come to fight for the people. Yet, there is one small band of freedom fighters bring sanity to the village. Anyone who threatens the education of our 8 million black children is likely to catch these eight black hands. [Twitter: @8Blackhands1]
Why the red "E"
02/10/2022
Does "E" stand for explicit? When I saw all of the red E's listed next to your episodes, I nearly decided not to give it a try. The only reason I clicked on was to hear about Abbott Elementary. Now after listening to one episode, I already love it and subscribed. The conversation is relevant, has a diversity of thoughts, humurous, and intellectual. And I don't hear explicit language. By the way, I use a few curse words myself, but don't like gratuitous cursing while listening to media. I'm just saying that the label of "E" might turn off some listeners before they give you a try.
Love the realness

Essential listening about children and education

This is an excellent podcast; informative, thought-provoking, and a great listen. I’ve already learned much from the perspectives they and their guests bring, and their dedication to educational justice is clear and inspiring.
Another great discovery for 2020

You have Dr. Greg Carr and his conversation with El-Mekki to thank for this review. I am a new school counselor by way of being a former CPS worker who always had a passion for educational issues. I’m discovering new things being on the inside of the school system and am so glad that I have the wisdom from you to give me greater perspective. I have to be more mindful and strategic now, but I understand that I’m still fighting. Keep doing what you. You make me better for it.
Gotta stop in the middle

I got a stop in the middle of episode 81 and say I love these guys! They truly get it. I am a white former high school teacher and their attitude towards education is exactly what every parents should be black or white, but especially black because the public education system like they say at minute 33 is a factory that is doing a bad job with their kids.’Can’t wait to get back to listening to the rest of this one.
A must listen

As a white educator of 17 years in Black/Brown schools, I am learning more and more each day about how much I don’t know. I am working on my own anti racism education and will for the rest of my life. This podcast is phenomenal and these voices should be amplified across the nation. And I don’t just mean for educators like me who work in Black/Brown communities. I mean these voices need to be heard by ALL educators...ALL parents...ALL policy makers, school boards, etc. For too long, Black voices in education have been silenced, stifled, dismissed while White voices have been accepted and validated. We are at a moment where hopefully that can begin to change and launch the MOVEMENT that is desperately needed. Thank you 8 Black Hands for your wisdom, leadership and voice. ✊🏻✊🏽✊🏿
Wonderfully Honest

As a white man, it is hard to relate, but they put things in a format and delivery that I understand. As a principal of a school it is important to feel and hear this perspective.

Essential listening for educators and activists

Ray, Charles, Sharif, and Chris bring the heat every episode. The conversations are timely, intelligent (but not too wonky), and just enough funny and irreverent.
