Very, very beta. Not a full-fledged Mac app.

Let me put it this way. If you want to undo something, pressing Command-Z (the universal "Undo" command since before Mac OS even added color graphics) won't work. Neither will the "Undo" command in the "Edit" menu -- it's grayed out. The only way to undo is to press the tiny "Undo" button in the window because, you guessed it, this is just a straight check-a-box port of the iPad app to the Mac with seemingly next to nothing done to make it a more proper Mac app.

You know what menu command DOES work? "Show colors," which pops up a color palette window that ... mostly does not do anything except change text color, because changing the colors of the brushes in Noteshelf is handled the same way (holding the mouse button down on a color until the in-app color palette, a completely different color palette, shows up) as it is in iOS. Makes sense there, makes none here. Why can't I tear off the brushes palettes? Why can't I right-click to edit a brush's color? Is this all Catalyst apps can do? I sure hope not, because this is, while sort of functional, also sort of embarrassing.

I don't necessarily regret the purchase, because I just wanted an easy means to view my notebooks in a Mac window while I work. This does that, however clunkily (VERY clunkily). For any needs more complicated than that, this simply isn't ready and truly not worth your money. I hope it gets there, but these early Catalyst apps are really, alarmingly incomplete.

Love Noteshelf for the iPad, not so much on the Mac

Noteshelf has become my goto app for taking notes, reviewing papers and just about everything that used to require paper.

It's clear that the developers do not expect that people will make extensive use of the Mac version and this is probably the right tradoff. Noteshelf shines when you have a pencil device. However, in it's current form, the Mac version is far more clunky than it should be.

Two specific suggestions for improvement: 1) add support for drag and drop -- it would be great to be able to simply drop a pdf onto the app (or icon) to add a file. 2) support use of the arrow keys to navigae through the pages of a document -- the only way I've found to navigate is to swipe left or right with two fingers on the touchpad (which is awkward when you mostly use a trackball).

Thanks for the honest feedback. We are always open to any criticism, both positive and negative. We will keep working on improving our app to make it better for you. Please feel free to share your thoughts a bit more in detail via our in-app feedback section so we can improvise accordingly.

Mac version does not compare to iPad version

As many others say in the reviews, I also love Noteshelf. The iPad version is incredible and has been a gamechanger for digital notetaking. However, the Mac version just feels like a port from an older version of iPad app, with many features missing from the iPad. I wouldn't mind having to pay for the Mac version if it provided an improved experience, but unfortunately that is not the case.

Some key features that I would love to see implemented in Mac version:
* Ability to sync through Dropbox or Google Drive, currently only supports iCloud for syncing between devices
* Better performance (seems laggy on my M1 chip mac)
* Viewer only mode

To me this app feels like something that should be included in the iPad cost.

One feature that I would absolutely love, and I know may be more difficult to implement, is the ability to edit in ipad and seeing life update on Mac
