About Bill Fay

British singer/songwriter Bill Fay cut two albums in the early '70s that became cult classics, but after a period of obscurity, he found his reputation blossoming among younger artists, and returned in the 2010s to make more well-regarded music. His 1970 self-titled debut was made up of songs that were cosmic in scope lyrically and featured pop-orchestral arrangements, while 1971's Time of the Last Persecution was a more rock-oriented production that gained media attention because of its rather dire and apocalyptic subject matter. Despite their reputation, Fay's records fell into obscurity, and though he kept writing songs, he disappeared from the music scene for more than two decades. After reissues of his catalog, Fay re-emerged with Life Is People in 2012 on Dead Oceans, followed by 2015's Who Is the Sender? He released his final album, Countless Branches, in 2020.
