A lovely surprise
DISCLAIMER: The story itself gets a 5/5 stars for me, however the performance of the audio left something to be desired for me. I highly recommend this story.
I found this book off of tiktok, which didn’t give me high hopes since many of the stories from that website haven’t exactly been my cup of tea- but this book was awesome!! A wonderful story full of tension, high stakes, lovable characters, and a heart warming romance that I literally could not put down. I am not kidding. I bought this audiobook and began to listen and did not stop until right now. I did not sleep last night, and I didn’t want to because of how invested I was in the story.
The only thing that keeps this from being a five star review is because of the nature of the audiobook itself- the narrator is great most of the time but there are moments when fairly common words or proper nouns are mispronounced and it took me out when it happened every time. Undulate and the Adirondack mountains are the two big ones, and unfortunately the former is used often in the spicier scenes of the book- which isn’t exactly when you want to be taken out because of the narrators pronunciation of a word. It’s a very pedantic thing to take note of, I know, but I listen to a lot of audiobooks bc I struggle with dyslexia and live a busy life so performance is very important to me.
