Eurydice Goodenham is convinced that a marriage of convenience with the notorious Sebastian Montgomery, Earl of Rockmorton, would be ideal: in exchange for one child, she can retreat to the library of his country house to write, while he continues his scandalous life in London. But when she finds herself falling in love with her unpredictable, mischievous and secretly honorable husband, does she have any hope of claiming his heart?
Sebastian is bored with the world’s amusements, until his friend’s ward makes a startling proposal. He can’t help but challenge Eurydice’s expectations in return. A wild escape to Gretna Green convinces him that his unexpected bride is perfect for him—except that Eurydice doesn’t believe in love. Can Sebastian win this bluestocking’s reluctant heart in time to save a Christmas—and a marriage—going awry?
Customer Reviews
Simply Delicious!
Eurydice Goodenham just wants to be left alone to read and write to her heart’s content, but there’s the pesky issue of her future security should her sister’s husband change his mind about supporting her. So she devises a novel and startling plan…she proposes a marriage of convenience to a known rake, Sebastian Montgomery, Earl of Rockmorton. She presents her plan to the flabbergasted Sebastian by telling him that he can continue to live the scandalous life he has always led, as long as he leaves her alone in a well stocked library.
Sebastian, who is secretly less of a scoundrel and much more of a gentleman than anyone knows, at first rejects the insane plot. Intrigue and an admiration for Eurydice’s elaborate and well thought out plans soon have him seriously considering the idea. However, Sebastian’s tragic family history may impede their Christmas HEA. This latest installment of “The Brides of North Barrows” series is beautifully written, with period appropriate values, and simply delicious banter between Eurydice and Sebastian. Each novella is a standalone, however readers of the entire series will enjoy revisiting characters from the previous books. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
