The Witness
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
WOW! I started this in the early morning as I couldn’t sleep. I thought I would read just a little and try and go back to sleep. Well that didn’t work out. This story just opened with a bang and just kept me glued to my e-reader until I finished. While this is the second in the series, you don’t have to read the prior story to enjoy this one.
Camille Goodman is under the protection of the U.S. Marshal Service. Last year in Chicago on Valentine’s Day, her fiancé throws himself over the able to attack her. She managed to escape and become the only woman to survive from an attack. Apparently her fiancé was a serial killer and was named “Carver”. Apparently after killing a woman, he would carve the word “MINE” over the woman’s left breast.
The story opens with Finn coming to Camille’s aid after she sends the “distress” signal and it just starting rolling into a snowball of suspense. Finnick (Finn) Reed, is the marshal assigned to protect Camille in Oregon. He is good at his job but he is emotionally distant as his mother, who was also a marshal, was killed by a fugitive as she was kissing Finn good-night when he was 10.
These two has some BIG hurdles to get through as well as who is after her now? The Carver is in jail back in Chicago waiting for the trial. Did Camille accidentally give out information to someone that led to another death? Is there a copycat killer on the loose? The questions just go on and on. More questions would arise as new information was discovered. This had me guessing and second-guessing all the way through.
The author didn’t write in a sexy scene but it alluded to one and then the next moment it was the next day. If you love a griping, suspenseful romance, then look no further than here. I would highly recommend this to anyone.
