iSlomo

In her third release, Boohle dives deep into different textures of dance music, riding on her adaptable voice and singing style. The rippling electric guitar and underscoring bass guitar on Ntokzin’s production is treated to shimmering Afro-pop vocals on “Izethembiso”. The amapiano star takes her time with drawn out melodies on the gospel-tinged “Ngikhokhele”, while “Mazikhale”, “Tshina” and “Wahamba” are bass-heavy slappers for the core piano fans. Gaba Cannal’s deep house background bleeds through on the soulful “Is That You” and “Undenza Ntoni” which features Murumba Pitch and sees Boohle interpolate bubblegum legend Brenda Fassie’s “My Baby”. iSlomo is the work of a songwriter and singer who’s morphing into a superstar thanks to her versatile voice and consistent output of hits. The title is by no means a reach—just self-affirmation from one of amapiano’s leading vocalists.
