Fangs, Frost, and Folios
Fangs, Frost, and Folios by Elizabeth Hunter
Elemental Mysteries series #5. Paranormal vampire holiday mystery novella. Can be read as a stand-alone but better if familiar with the series to appreciate all the characters.
Giovanni and Beatrice need a little excitement in their lives and take the opportunity to search an old friend’s library for a rare book. The library is massive and since it’s never been catalogued, they accept the help of Rene, with reservations. He may be looking for a journal, but he may be lying, and stirring up some trouble.
Meanwhile, back in their home, Ben and Tenzin have agreed to stay with pre-teen Sadia who is moody and a bit of a pill. Tenzin has it covered when she discovers the reason behind Sadie’s mood swings and the party planning begins.
Entertaining story with old familiars and new adventures. It’s easily followed if new to the series although there are quite a few primary characters to follow. I enjoyed a few laugh out loud moments as well a one or two heartwarming moments.
A fantastic and joyful holiday mystery novella.
Light, Fun, Enjoyable Read
Fangs, Frost, and Folios is a paranormal romance novella by Elizabeth Hunter. This is a book in the Elemental Mysteries series about a 500 year old rare book dealer and a librarian, Giovanni and Beatrice. The pair had left behind their life of supernatural intrigue for a quiet family life, but were finding that they weren’t really suited to retirement. They were tempted by a rumor that a recently deceased friend had an unpublished play by the Bard himself in her extensive library. They travelled to England to appropriate it, before the library was inventoried, then nipped back home in time for the Christmas holiday. What follows is a tale of subterfuge, espionage, and intrigue while their daughter was experiencing a significant developmental milestone at home, in the company of her older brother and his mate. Having recently enjoyed a few of this author’s books, I decided to take a stab at this series. I found the book to be light and fun, but I was at a disadvantage starting in the middle of the series. There was a lot of backstory alluded to that would have enhanced my reading experience if I had known what it was. On the surface, it was an engaging tale, and worth the read, but if you are also new to the series, I recommend starting at the beginning. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after reading an advanced complementary copy of this novella thanks to Valentine PR.
