The Robber Bridegroom
A miller who wished for his beautiful daughter to be married and provided for, promises her to a rich suitor who she doesn't trust. When the suitor invites her to his home in the dark forest, she marks her way with peas and lentils. The house, which is dark and deserted, has a bird that warns her it's a murderer's house. Exploring the house, she finds an old woman in the cellar who reveals the house belongs to a group of robbers who eat human flesh.
The old woman hides her when the robbers come home, and she witnesses them kill another young girl. A finger with a ring from the murdered girl lands in her bosom, which she keeps. The old woman then drugs the robbers' wine, allowing them both to escape, following a path marked by the sprouted peas and lentils. She tells her father the whole story upon reaching home.
On the wedding day, at the banquet, the bride recounts her horrifying experience under the guise of it being a dream, even producing the ring that flew into her bosom. The suitor/robber, realizing he's been discovered, tries to escape but is captured and, along with his gang, is executed for his crimes.
