About Shim

Based in Los Angeles, Shim is an Australian rock singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer who rose to prominence in the mid-2000s as the frontman for post-grunge combo Sick Puppies. After relocating to the U.S., Shim -- then using his full name Shimon Moore -- and his bandmates enjoyed viral success for their 2006 single "All the Same," which bolstered their profile and helped albums like Tri-Polar (2009) and Connect (2013) reach a large audience. After parting ways with Sick Puppies in 2014, Shim launched a solo career in a similarly aggressive alt-rock style with his self-titled 2018 debut. Moore and bassist Emma Anzai formed Sick Puppies in 1997 in Mosman, New South Wales, bonding over their love of bands like Silverchair and Rage Against the Machine. Initially the band's drummer, Shim took over lead vocals and guitar with the arrival of their first drummer, Chris Mileski, and the trio quickly became a fixture on Sydney's music scene, releasing their debut album in 2001. Following a move to Los Angeles, Sick Puppies' career took off when the video for their 2006 single "All the Same" -- which was featured in the Free Hugs Campaign social movement -- went viral and earned their second album, Dressed Up As Life, a placement on the Billboard charts. Moore would go on to record two more albums with Sick Puppies, each more successful than the last, before tensions within the group led to his departure in 2014. After a few years in Los Angeles trying out various collaborations and plotting his next move, Moore -- now billing himself simply as Shim -- opted to go the solo route and began producing new music out of his own studio. 2018's aggressive, groove-heavy "Hallelujah" marked Shim's first foray as a solo act and was included on his eponymous debut album later that year. ~ Timothy Monger
