“An addictive, action-packed, scorcher of a read!” —#1 New York Times bestselling author Alyson Noël
Some shadows protect you…others will kill you in this dazzling new fantasy series from award-winning author Abigail Owen.
Everything about my life is a lie. As a hidden twin princess, born second, I have only one purpose—to sacrifice my life for my sister if death comes for her. I’ve been living under the guise of a poor, obscure girl of no standing, slipping into the palace and into the role of the true princess when danger is present.
Now the queen is dead and the ageless King Eidolon has sent my sister a gift—an eerily familiar gift—and a proposal to wed. I don’t trust him, so I do what I was born to do and secretly take her place on the eve of the coronation. Which is why, when a figure made of shadow kidnaps the new queen, he gets me by mistake.
As I try to escape, all the lies start to unravel. And not just my lies. The Shadowraith who took me has secrets of his own. He struggles to contain the shadows he wields—other faces, identities that threaten my very life.
Winter is at the walls. Darkness is looming. And the only way to save my sister and our dominion is to kill Eidolon…and the Shadowraith who has stolen my heart.
The Dominions series is best enjoyed in order.

Really good young adult read. Cliff hangers on every chapter made me want to stop reading a few times. It’s still a good book. Stockholm syndrome at its finest.
It was okay
I didn’t think it was possible but I’m starting to feel as though I’ve read too many books. Because of this, I found that it’s harder and harder to find something that hits all the high points and really grabs my heart.
Overall, I think that this was a good read. But it’s definitely something I would’ve enjoyed more a few years ago when I first got into fantasy romance novels.
Through my personal experience when reading this book, I found it really hard to imagine a lot of the scenes that took place. It was weird because there was a lot of detail put into the descriptions of things but it’s like it wasn’t the right details needed to really grasp what was going on or what it might look like if I were to picture it.
There are also a lot of events that would begin to climax, and then fall short too soon. I just kept feeling like something was missing the whole time.
Even so I read the story to the end and felt it was worth it, despite knowing I probably won’t read the sequels. I can see that there will be a lot left to unravel in the next books. But for now I’ll just let my imagination run, wild, and believe that there’s a happy ending.
I realize this review is kind of negative but I will say that there are a LOT of great qualities about this book. Every one of the characters have their own likable charm. Without spoiling anything I will say that several of the characters bring fresh traits to the table I have not seen before. I found every one of the characters lovable and intriguing to learn about.
Moreover I will conclude by saying, if you are new to Romance fantasy novels, I would give this one a green light.
I appreciate the author and they’re hard work. I hope to see more novels to come.
Thank you.
Wow, couldn’t finish it fast enough
Action packed and full of surprises. Loved the magical themes reminds me of shadow and bone but also different. I highly recommend, cannot wait for the 2nd installment.
