Osapa London

Osapa London

PsychoYP might be made and honed in Abuja, but Lagos remains a creative port of call for the ever-engaging rapper, whose music definitively explores the intersection of being young, hip, free and financially secure. On his latest project, Osapa London, YP turns his focus to the high-end enclave of the same name, located in the middle of Lagos’ famous archipelago. Channelling the themes of upward mobility and exuberance that define the pulse of life in Osapa London, PsychoYP continues to be young and uninhibited and makes a throwback to the celebratory motifs that drove YPSZN2. Osapa London kicks off with a meditative rumination on the present state of YP’s life and Nigeria on “This Country”. Osapa London also sees the most pronounced infusion of Afropop-adjacent melodies into YP’s work to date. Ajebo Hustlers join for a vibe-led extravaganza on “Not My Fault” and King Perryy adds extra dynamism to “STAND ATTENTION.” Still, Psycho YP never strays too far from his hip-hop origins: ODUMODUBLVCK joins for a grime-influenced cut on “SETTLE US!” where both rappers proclaim their street credentials and legendary rapper, Ice Prince, delivers a breezy verse on “Most Times.”
