A terrific feel-good romance

Double Dog Dare by Tracy Solheim is the second in her Milwaukee Growlers series. Luke Kessler is a wide receiver for The Growlers, and he and Summer Pearson meet while visiting their grandparents at the assisted living facility in town.
Luke falls for the lovely musician who’s been suffering a crisis of confidence, and their dogs get along like a house afire. Tracy Solheim’s storytelling is warm and funny, and the supporting cast from his teammates to a host of occasionally meddling seniors bring out the best in Summer and Luke.

Double Dog Dare is the second book in the Milwaukee Growlers series, but could be read as a stand alone. Luke and Summer first meet because of their dogs, but Luke’s normal charm doesn’t seem to effect Summer. They quickly find that they cross each other’s paths more than they would have liked, especially with the chemistry they feel between them. Both of them are dealing with some issues from their past, but can they find peace and love in one another’s arms, or is love not in the gameplay for either one of them?
Oh my goodness, I got sucked into this book right away! I adored the ups and downs of Summer and Luke’a relationship, with their rocky beginning, sparks that shocked from first touch, and the way I couldn’t help but cheer for both of them to find healing and love with each other! Summer loves to play music, but after a humiliating event, she never wants to play again. Dealing with the aftermath of that, mixed with trying to plan her future that she doesn’t want, seeing the health of her grandma decline, and add in a playful jock that can’t keep his hands off of her, she has her hands full of crazy emotions! Luke, while he might come across as a happy-go-lucky type of guy, has his own inner demons. Both feel a bit broken, but together, they’re perfect. I loved their passion, I loved their emotional connection, and I loved their trust. There’s some family drama that goes on in the background, but it doesn’t distract from the main characters, only enhances their ups and downs. What does distract are the two adorable pups in this story! Loved them just as much as the characters! This was a fantastic read! I look forward to more in this series and from this author!
