    Take Out the Trash

    Take Out the Trash

When is the last time you took out the trash?
What if I asked you the same question, but I wasn't talking about the trash in your kitchen? Instead I was talking about all the negative trash in your life that holds you back from being the most successful version of yourself. What would your answer be then?
How many times have you tried to stuff it down to fit a little more in it instead of just getting rid of it? How many times has that resulted in the trash overflowing and making a bigger mess or even worse breaking the bag because it is just too much. What is going on in and around your life because of too much trash? How much more can you take before you break?

    Holistic Education with Zen Benefiel

    Holistic Education with Zen Benefiel

At the tender age of 18, Zen Benefiel experienced a profound near-death experience (NDE) that became the gateway to a lifetime of profound transformation and  exploration. During this remarkable event, Zen found himself on the threshold between life and death, experiencing a profound shift in consciousness and an intimate connection with the divine. Zen's NDE became the catalyst for his lifelong journey of self-discovery, leading him to explore diverse spiritual traditions, engage in scientific research, and seek out wisdom teachings from ancient cultures. This transformative experience continues to shape his perspective, infusing his work as an author, leader, speaker, and podcast host with a profound sense of compassion, authenticity, and reverence for the mysteries of existence.
    Key Takeaways:
We need to focus on some of the ancient and indigenous teachings rather than just the academic and physical ones we currently do.We are not listening to students enough and neglecting the social emotional aspect of learning along with how to learn instead of just hitting a standard. If students are emotionally available to learn, they will not be able to learn. You can't change a system without changing the people in it first because the people are the systemWe currently teach people to think and then feel where we should be focusing on feeling and then thinking.Control is the default when we are afraid and don't know the answer. We can only engage in meaningful self examination, if we are psychologically safe and intellectually humble enough to do so.Where we focus our attention and intention is where we will achieve.Everything in life is a choice and it's our perception based on our perspective that guides us in making them.Stay in Touch:WebsiteDon’t Forget to Review the Show!

    How Are You

    How Are You

How often do we ask that question with no interest in the answer? How often do we answer it knowing the person who asked doesn't really want to hear our answer?
We can create more of an authentic focus on social emotional learning by taking small steps to increase empathy. Take the challenge in the video by taking a small step today.
Remember that everyone is on their own journey that continues long after you have stopped seeing them. Make that time a bright, positive moment. You'll be amazed at the difference you can make.

Everyone is Unique with David Shultz

Everyone is Unique with David Shultz

Dave is a former schoolteacher with 16 years of classroom experience.  Dave also has 20 years of teaching experience in untraditional settings. He has a bachelor's degree and two masters degrees in education.  While in the classroom, he was certified as a music teacher.  He taught Band, Orchestra, Choir, and general music at all levels, preschool through college.  Other items he has taught include swimming, Microsoft Office, SAP, Contract Management, Soft Skills, Customer Relationship Management, Presentation Skills, and Computer Skills.  He comes from a family of teachers. At one point in time, there were 13 active professional teachers in the family.  His spare time is all about his kids.
    Key Takeaways:
Swimming lessons are a good example of the need to differentiate based on levels of readiness. The most important aspect of supporting teachers is having resources available.Schools should be passing strategies to families for learning to continue at home. You engage people by reaching them on an emotional level. We need to examine exactly what we are measuring with grades. They are a snapshot in time and reflect much more than what is actually occurring with student learning. We have to make use of periodic reviews if we are to expect students to be able to retain information over the long term.Use technology in a way that has students creating and solving problems rather than just extensions of traditional methods. We have to teach students how to fail and fail correctly without punishing them with grades. It is how you handle failure that makes the difference. The YouTube example for learning.Stay in Touch:Email: DavidSchultz@financialguide.com

    Simple Acts of Service

    Simple Acts of Service

How often have we slowed down the pace of our lives enough to notice the small acts of service we can perform for others?
Those small acts for us often have a larger impact on those who receive them. All we have to do is notice what we can do for others to make a large, positive impact on them and eventually our whole community.
There is a challenge in the video. Start small and then build up to multiple acts. Whether they are small gifts or physical help they create small ripples that grow larger over time. Our actions influence the actions of others. Let's make sure they are positive.

The Life Skills handbook with Shari Pierce

The Life Skills handbook with Shari Pierce

Shari Pierce was born and raised in Yonkers, New York and was a special educator for the Yonkers Public Schools for thirty-three years. For twenty-three of those years, she worked with middle and high-schoolers with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. Following her retirement, she wrote a book, "Life Skills: A Handbook for Parents & Teachers of the Intellectually Disabled" which gives gentle advice about educating this most special population and emphasizes collaboration among parents, teachers, administrators and support staff. She is also the sibling of an adult with developmental disabilities.

Shari received her B.S. in Special Education from New York University and an M.A. in Learning Disabilities from Teachers College, Columbia University. She was named a Leader in Education by the JCY - Westchester Community Partners in 2012.
    Key Takeaways:
Shari's book is organized in a way that serves as a desk reference.Learning takes place in many different ways, including outside of the classroom, and is often messy when it's authentic.Kids are kids and good teaching is good teaching. We can all learn from what our colleagues are doing in different classrooms.Administrators can support their teachers through understanding, listening, and funding. It's important for administrators to spend time in sub-separate classrooms getting to know the students.Inclusion starts with small steps that lead to greater opportunities. It's important for students to know that they are loved but even more important to feel as if they are valued.Stay in Touch:BookEmail: shari33199@aol.com
