Publisher Description
A surrealistic bedtime story, Chess Face is inspired mainly by my early paintings of still lives. I was truly trying to master and express all I had learned at this time while exploring my signature style as an artist thus creating the first vision of my art.
It starts with a girl reading a book and we learn Tassajara is one of her favorite books. The rooms around her are explored and given a description of their interiors. She falls into a dream. Soon her visitor arrives but not before she bids goodnight to her portrait of a night lamp. The strategy of the book is formatted along the idea of a chessboard. A few selected passages are written in Spanish and English.

A Brand New Saga With a Different Kind of Art
What starts off as an ordinary tale turns oddly surreal and begins to flow with a sort of dream logic. This is a new story that Eloy has transformed his art into. Unlike the art from The Broken Skyline series, the art in “Chess Face” is of the human form, or of indoor objects (ie furniture) that again has been anthropomorphized into a face-like shape. “Chess Face” is aptly named for in each of the paintings in this story you can find faces hidden within the image even if there isn’t any human in there. Another main difference from this is that the art is more of a Picasso-esque cubist form rather than the meld of pop art and abstract expressionism that is displayed in Eloy's other books.
