Maggie’s Back
“In her own way, Neil’s first wife was just as relentless as he was. Too bad for her that his second wife could teach the mountains a thing or two about being stubborn.“
Neil and Maggie have their first night “off” since the baby was born, as the kids are at the grandparents. Enough food to feed an army, and they snuggle in for a quiet New Year’s Eve alone together. However, the best laid plans get thwarted as Leo shows up with the idea of crashing THE party in town. They know Leo’s issues- he’s alone and drinking to fill that loneliness- and so Maggie agrees to let him get them ready for the masquerade party. However, they don’t need to seek out trouble, it runs straight towards them, and this time, it takes no prisoners! Anybody want to rethink this idea?
I love Jennifer L.Hart’s characters, and as I celebrate the new series, we’ve all missed Maggie and Neil...and Leo. I liked that we got a bit more of Maggie’s and Neil’s backstories here, and, that even Leo has “warts” (he’s always been fairly “Butler-ish” to me); ones that might get them into more trouble than their friendship is worth. Highly recommended 5/5
