Chariot Of The Gods

Chariot Of The Gods

Hoodoo Gurus may have formed in Sydney in 1981, but their love of rampaging guitars wrapped around pop melodies has not dimmed. The quartet approached their 10th studio album in the same way they did their 1984 debut LP Stoneage Romeos, recording and releasing a series of stand-alone singles before delivering the full-length, with “Answered Prayers” surfacing as far back as 2019. It may not then be a coincidence that Chariot of the Gods buzzes with a similar intensity to Stoneage Romeos—be it in the pummeling “I Come From Your Future,” the glam stomp of “World of Pain,” or the anthemic “Carry On.” Lyrically, themes of resilience (“If they don’t listen we will still carry on,” sings frontman Dave Faulkner on “Carry On”) nestle alongside outsider rallying cries (“This town is narrow-minded/The people here are blinded by hate,” he rails in “Get Out of Dodge”), adding further potency to the band’s boisterous guitar attack.
