6 | Possibilities | Michael Ecker, Principal of Calavera Hills Middle School

6 | Possibilities | Michael Ecker, Principal of Calavera Hills Middle School

Is there anyone on the planet who can speak to the value of possibilities better than a principal? Michael was the first person Harry thought of when the subject came up because he's a guy who has dedicated his life to enhancing the possibilities of students.

"How well can a child align themself to what they dream to be, and how well do we as an organization support them in that pathway by aligning what we do in school to what their possible selves may be," he says.

You'll realize quickly that Michael is an expert on the topic, and the research he shares is as fascinating as it is (sometimes) maddening. Regardless, he'll make you think about your past experiences and future possibilities a little differently after you listen.

5 | Integrity | Chip Brewer, CEO of Callaway Golf

5 | Integrity | Chip Brewer, CEO of Callaway Golf

How important is leading a life of integrity to Callaway Golf CEO Chip Brewer? "It’s just a non-negotiable quality for a leader," he says. Before starting MUNICIPAL, Harry worked with Chip for seven years at Callaway, where together they pumped new innovation into the company and led it back to industry prominence.

Having integrity means doing the right thing even during the most difficult of circumstances, and that's something that Harry has always admired about Chip. So where did it start, and most importantly, how does someone develop that value if it's not inherent in them? (That's your cue to listen and find out.)

4 | Working Together | Alan Mulally, Former CEO of Ford & Boeing

From serving at Boeing for 37 years to accepting the (what seemed impossible at the time) task of transforming Ford Motor Company back into an auto powerhouse, Alan Mulally has proved himself to be one of the top business leaders of the past few decades.

In this brief but powerful conversation with Harry, he explains how he was able to do it and provides plenty of specific examples that we could all learn from.

"One of the things that I knew was going to help turn Ford around was working together...respecting each other, listening to each other in a positive, find-a-way attitude."

3 | Tenacity | Stacey Epstein, CMO at Freshworks

Technology was very much a man's world when Stacey entered the field out of college. "A friend and I used to joke that we were raised by wolves in the 90s," Epstein says. It was tenacity and toughness that she used to build up an extremely successful career, ultimately leading up to her latest role at Freshworks and being named a Top 50 Women Leaders in SaaS (Software as a Service) in 2020.

Harry asks Stacey to share her secrets of developing tenacity, in which case she explains how she connects it to her passions. When you discover what you love, there are innate tenacious qualities.

2 | Self-Belief | Dominique Wilkins, NBA Hall of Famer

There isn’t an athlete who demonstrated self-belief in their prime quite like NBA Hall of Famer and dunk legend, Dominique Wilkins. “I’ve never had doubt in myself and my ability,” he says. A hero to young Harry Arnett growing up in Atlanta, Wilkins kept finding ways to improve weaknesses in his game and prove his critics wrong. Harry wants to know where that came from and if it’s teachable because we all might need a little bit right now.

1 | Recognition | David Novak, Retired CEO of YUM! Brands

David Novak is the former CEO of YUM! Brands (you know, Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut…) and a renowned expert on leadership and recognition culture, which is exactly the topic Harry wants to pick his brain about. “People have a deep down desire to be appreciated for what they do,” Novak says. And that’s why he began making recognition his top priority, starting with a rubber chicken trophy, $100 bills, and famously decorating his office with hundreds of portraits of his employees.

Great things do come in small packages

An incredibly insightful and motivating podcast that’s less than 20 minutes long. Great for the car ride to work, or just looking for a little extra pep to get your day started. Great interviews, awesome advice, and very motivational. Nice work!

Short, sweet focused and impactful!

The number one deterrent for me to listen to a podcast is how long they are and how much fluff they sometimes contain. What I love about 15 Minute Mentor is the focused topics and the efficiency. I love the humor and the guests are top notch. This is a super refreshing one in the world of podcasts!
