Could be leaner, a bit messy and clunky

Let’s face it, mail on iOS and Mac is the app you want to use as an Apple user. It syncs with so many other services of your devices that it only makes sense. It’s also crazy easy to set up a new email address.

The interface is clean, swift and looks good. But…

If you use several emails, it gets confusing very fast. The automated choice of right address to write is not always up to par. And this habit (inherited from the interface of itunes/music too) of cutting the addresses to save space is ridiculous nowadays.

The buttons to answer emails are counterintuitive. If you try to answer to a particular email in a thread, don’t try to use the obvious buttons on top of the app. No, you have to use the tiny ones at the bottom right of said email (which means scrolling until the end of time if the emails are chained).

The search window is too small and not really efficient.

There are automations to create routines to separate your emails depending on the way you like to have your emails ordered. But if I wanted to be a programmer, well, I would be a programmer. And the app does not offer that in an easy way like Spark, Gmail or Thunderbird have been doing since then 2000’s.

I really want to use this app for the interconnection with icloud and other iOS fun stuff, but as an avid user of emails for professional reasons, it’s too clunky for me.

Decent mail app if it worked

It keeps forgetting my Outlook password. I'll put it in again and it will work for a few hours then it will forget it again and not let me log in at all. Then maybe a day later it will work again.

Edit: Fixed the password issue by creating an Outlook account instead of the Exchange account. I had created the Exchange account because of the password issue in the past with my Outlook account. Hopefully it sticks. So far so good. Two minutes of using the horrible dedicated Outlook app had me running back to this app to figure out a solution. This app is less cluttered, more streamlined and easier for me to use than the Outlook app which seems to be so dumbed down it actually impedes its functionality. Floating icons that get in the way. You can't even insert photos in-line, you have to attach them. Forget responding to an email without it creating weird threads and hiding emails. But this review isn't about that app, it's about this one. As long as it functions properly this is my go-to email client. The only feature I'm not too keen about is the "undo send". When I hit send I want the email to send. Not hang around in my outbox. Other than that. Zero complaints.

Almost there . . .

Some of Apple’s native apps leave much to be desired, so I was dubious when I decided to give Apple Mail a shot. But I have to say, it’s an improvement over Gmail - at least for me. The main reason I ditched Gmail is the lack of a “select all” button to delete multiple emails simultaneously - something I consider a must. Having this option in Apple Mail is extremely convenient. I simply select all emails at once and uncheck the ones I want to keep. I also like the clean UI and all the mailbox customization options. Everything is very easy to use. However, one complaint is that flagged emails should be automatically removed from the inbox and show ONLY in the “flagged” folder. There is no logical need for them to remain in the inbox, too. This makes it inconvenient when I want to delete multiple inbox emails at once, because I have to separate the flagged emails first. Also, something I miss from Gmail is the colored icon headings that individualize emails and make them pop. For these two reasons, I rate the app four stars, instead of five. Otherwise, very good work.
