Death at the Edge of the Diamond

“And if it was . . . murder . . .” she fumbled to use the word, “how are you going to figure it out?  You’re just a baseball player.”

Summer of ’79 on Cape Cod. Sweat and gritty plaster dust is sticking to Jon Megquire’s shirt when he comes face to face with growing up. He had intended to enjoy playing in the Cape Cod Baseball League. He expected to play baseball among higher caliber players. He expected he would be punching his ticket to the big leagues and the good life.  His vision ahead was limited to a couple of months of sports, girls, and goofs with the guys. He did not expect building science and murder.
