See AllGreat Start to Their Story
It's been a minute since I've read a book by Shayla Black, but I jumped right in to WICKED AS SEDUCTION: TREES & LAILA PART 1 without realizing that theirs is a story that has been building as part of the backstory in prior books in the Wicked & Devoted series. Even so, I had no trouble reading this solely as the first part of their complicated, steamy, thrill-packed story, and can't wait to see what's next.
It was nice to see such a spitfire of a heroine in Laila, one that kept Trees on his toes and then some. I'm really hoping that Part Two of their story continues in the same vein, because it really did add something. I mean, it's nice to have a (sometimes) gentle giant around to save the day, but where's the fun if there's no spark?
If romantic suspense with an, ahem, dominant side is your bag, this is definitely the book for you. I would suggest starting with the first books and working your way through, but, as said, if you just want Laila and Trees, this book can be read as a standalone, and as the first part of a two-book package. Shayla seals the deal with a cliffy that will definitely have you (and me!) coming back for more, and Part 2 can't get here quickly enough. ❤️

Laila and Trees
Laila has been at the mercy of the ruthless cartel for years. When she finally escapes, she thinks things will be better but the safe house she and her sister are using is discovered. Trees, from EM security, takes on the role of bodyguard for Laila. But she trusts no man. Trees is very attracted to her and is determined to protect her. As they run from danger, Laila begins to see a different type of man than she is used to and Tress is determined to keep her safe. But the cartel isn’t giving up, Laila refuses to believe any man can be depended on and Trees is also having trouble with a suspected mole at EM security. Non-stop adventure, tons of heat and excellent character development. Laila’s past does make her take some foolish risks and Trees is pushed to his limits to try and protect her. Lots of tension and danger and tons of heat!
