PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Like Beyond Risk, the first in Mann's Florida Wildlife Warriors series, this gripping romantic thriller set in the wilderness of central Florida rewards readers willing to suspend their disbelief. At 16, Delilah Atwood escaped from her militant, survivalist family and the marriage they arranged between her and a much older man. Eight years later, Delilah's master's degree program at Florida State University sends her back home to Ocala to study the local monkey population, but her real concern is getting her teenage sister, Mary, away from her abusive family before they can try to marry her off as well. Increased local militia activity and the murder of another monkey researcher has caught the attention of the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, including Officer Josh Tanner, and Delilah's family may be connected to the crime. Delilah and Josh will need each other's help to get to the bottom of things and rescue Mary, but their undeniable attraction to one another complicates their working relationship. Mann glosses over some of the more unbelievable elements of her suspense plot like why no one recognizes Delilah in the community where she grew up with a quick pace and powerful emotions. Readers willing to overlook some implausibilities are in for an easy, entertaining ride.

Awesome Read!
What a great action packed, who done it story. This is the 1st book I read by Connie Mann and definitely not the last! I couldn’t put it down and didn’t want it to end. The story is set in the Ocala Forest where family live under the government radar. Delilah had escaped from the controlling family situation, but even though she has many bad memories she returns to save her little sister from the fate she almost had to endure. Meeting sexy Josh, Fish and Wildlife Department officer is a distraction she doesn’t need. Her goal is to rescue her sister and get out of town. Josh has other ideas and they team up together and the plot thickens with more twists and turns. A definite must read!
Monkeys and mayhem
A fast moving book with non-stop action, I found this one hard to put down. Josh and Delilah made good protagonists, each having a good head on their shoulders, with appropriate maturity to their situation. I liked that Delilah, although close to desperate to rescue her sister, didn’t succumb to stupid behavior in the name of playing the heroine. Josh, equally, was a strong hero without being overbearing or domineering. They played well together and off each other. The romance built nicely and was well-paced. Although there was good, almost non-stop action, sometimes it seemed the action was happening without really moving the story forward much. Otherwise, it was a good read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout, which is a pain, and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Riveting
Josh is an officer with the Florida FWC (Fish and Wildlife Conservation). Delilah is a student working on a research grant studying the rhesus macaque monkey. She escaped a family of extreme survivalists at the age of sixteen and now she is back to get her little sister out before it is too late. Using her research as a reason to be searching in the woods surrounding Ocala, she searches for her family's homestead. While looking for her family and studying the monkeys, Delilah's life is threatened and she must figure out if it is her estranged family or someone else much more sinister threatening her. Josh happens to be the one to save Delilah on several occasions. Can he keep his heart from getting involved? Is it already too late and can he convince Delilah to trust him with her heart as well as her protection?
Beyond Power is the second book in the Florida Wildlife Warriors Series. Not having read the first book in this series, I do not feel as if I were missing parts of the story. I will go and read the first book now as this book has been so good. It is a well written action packed thriller. It was a quick read for me as I had a hard time putting it down. The story has plot twists and turns that I never guessed keeping me on the edge of my seat. I love Josh's strong character. He is loyal and honest and his family and friends show Delilah what it is like to belong rather than to be hidden while surrounded by people.
I definitely recommend this book. I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving a review which is my opinion alone.
