    CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH:  REV DOVEY ROUNDTREE, ESQ (1914 - 2018):  Roundtree was an ordained minister, civil rights activist and an attorney.  In this conversation, she talks about her experiences with racial discrimination and challenges when joining the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in 1942; her relationship with Mary McLeod Bethune; meeting with First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt; and why she became an attorney after meeting Edith Sampson.

    CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH:  JOE DUDLEY (1937 - ) Long before Dudley was featured on Chris Rock’s ‘Good Hair’, he made a stop on the set of Cara Live!  Similar to Madam C J Walker, in 1957, he invested $10 in a Fuller Products hair kit and began selling hair care products.  By 1975, he formed Dudley Products Company in Greensboro, NC and employed approximately 400 sales people.  In 1988, he opened Dudley Cosmetology University with 8 strategically located schools.  His company has been listed in the top 50 in Black Enterprise Magazine’s Top 100 Black Owned Businesses.  The company has a global presence and is available in Canada, Brazil, Zimbabwe, South Africa, The Bahamas and the Caribbean.  #LivingLegend

    Rev Dr Reginald Hawkins (1923-2007) - Part I

    CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH:  Hawkins was a minister, dentist, civil rights activist and the first African American to run for Governor in North Carolina.  In Part I, Hawkins provides insight into his background, college experiences and his introduction to civil rights.  He discusses: the 1943 Black mail carriers campaign; his involvement with Thurgood Marshall and Mary Church Terrell while a student at Howard; suing the Dental Society; housing discrimination; and the bombing of his home.  When discussing the  juxtaposition of Charlotte’s past with the potential future of the city, Hawkins states that his thesis is “Everything has changed, but nothing is different.”

    CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH:  On October 31, 1999, a young Rev. Dr William Barber II delivered a passionate speech titled "Stop the Funeral" to uplift voters during a rally at St. Paul's Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC.  His speech is addressing the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school desegregation case and it's potential impact within the state.  Barber has been the pastor of Greenleaf Christian Church in Goldsboro, NC since 1993.  In 2013, he started a coalition with 93 advocacy groups called "Moral Mondays"  as a civil rights protest at the NC State Capital.  He has been named one of the NC's most progressive political leaders.
