APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
In this novel-length prequel to the Star Trek: Picard TV series, the best captain in the Star Trek universe (fight us) learns that doing the right thing can be an uphill battle. Starfleet living legend Jean-Luc Picard has finally been promoted from captain to admiral, and not a moment too soon. Scientists have just discovered that a star in the Romulans’ galaxy is about to go supernova, forcing Picard to spearhead a massive evacuation while tiptoeing around Earth's always-prickly relationship with the uncooperative race. Author Una McCormack brings many well-loved characters into this ticking-clock adventure, throwing them into the fray alongside brand-new faces. Narrator Robert Petkoff amplifies the unpredictable dynamics and drama and does an impressive job of capturing Picard’s strength and authority. Packed full of the kind of social and political commentary we love about the whole franchise, The Best Last Hope is guaranteed to satisfy true-blue Trekkies—and bring new ones into the fold.

See AllWorth the read
I’m not the biggest fan of Picard as a character but I figured I would read this just to finish the series and it might just be one of my favorite books. Listening to this made Picard the series make so much more sense and it was nice getting the backstory’s. Even if you aren’t a fan of Picard (character or show) this is definitely a must read as it also expands the universe.

I was hoping for better…
Really a very poor story! I was so surprised at how bad this was. Foreshadowed events which were just left unresolved. Somewhat major characters that were introduced but left to dry. Unexplained major events in the book leaving you with a “how did that happen?” feeling. At the end of the book it seems that the author just got bored and ended the story.
