About The Rutles
The product of satirists Monty Python's Eric Idle and Bonzo Dog Band's Neil Innes (with Python fan George Harrison's seal of approval), the Rutles was an affectionate and perceptive parody of the Beatles’ career. While maybe not at the pop culture icon level of Spinal Tap, it remains one of rock’s most lasting parodies. With Ron, Dirk, Rikki, and Stig taking the place of John, Paul, George and Ringo, the 1978 film ALL YOU NEED IS CASH and its attendant album, THE RUTLES, deftly re-created the Beatles development from Mersey pop ("I Must Be In Love") to psychedelia ("Piggy In The Middle"), and all stops in between. In the wake of the Beatles revival of the mid-'90s, the Rutles "re-formed" to produce ARCHAEOLOGY.
