This Woman Can Janice Sutherland

Like many Black women of my generation, I was raised with the ethos that I had to work twice as hard than my counterparts just to be recognized, yet alone get ahead. 
This meant I was constantly on the go, constantly feeling the pressure to hustle and perform which led to my last bout of career burnout and I knew I had to do things differently. 
It was then I realized I don’t have to follow the conventional path of success, I could define my own measures and go at my pace.

This week, I'm delving into a disturbing yet unfortunately not uncommon incident involving Diane Abbott, a distinguished member of the UK parliament, and explore how sadly tolerating BS is a reality for many mature Black women stuck in jobs that are, well, past their prime. 
We're getting real about the toll of the double bind of limited opportunities, the financial tightrope many of us walk, and the weight of that "strong Black woman" stereotype. We'll also get real about the toll this BS takes on our well-being, from wrecking our self-esteem to being treated like you're invisible.
So, if you're nodding along thinking, "Yeah, that's totally me," then it's time to ask yourself: why are you settling for less?
