How My Business Ran Without Me for 2 Months | The Way I See It

How My Business Ran Without Me for 2 Months | The Way I See It

In this unique episode of Tukatalks, Ram Sareen shares some of his personal health journey, his philosophy when starting Tukatech, and why he believes that family owned businesses are more resilient than public companies. Toward the end, Sareen shares clips submitted by Tukatech employees sharing how they have grown during their time with the company.

Ram Sareen started his fashion technology company, Tukatech, after a short-lived early retirement. At age 45, he'd had a cardiac arrest on a dentist's chair due to excessive anesthesia. He was declared dead, but was miraculously revived. With this second chance came a new perspective on life, people, and the reality that one day we all will leave this world. He decided to leave corporate America and retire early.

Just a few months into retirement, Sareen became restless from boredom. He knew he needed more than a life of leisure. He wanted to create something that made a difference, and thus Tukatech was born.

Sareen started Tukatech as a passion project, and was determined to avoid the common pitfalls of public companies. Tukatech remains a private, family-owned business to this day. This has given Sareen the ability to run his company his way, and to prioritize the development of his team over quarterly profit goals. This decision recently proved to be a wise one.

About 30 years later, in early 2024, Ram Sareen went in for a medical check up before a planned trip to Asia. The doctors discovered multiple blocked arteries in his heart, indicating a looming "silent heart attack," miraculously caught just in time to operate and repair the blockages.

Sareen was not allowed to work during nearly 2 months of recovery. Tukatech, however, continued operating and supporting users from all over the world. Some CEOs like to brag that nothing gets done without them. For Sareen, however, this trial proved that no matter what happens to him, his team is what makes Tukatech resilient.

How to Evaluate 3D Fashion Technology | The Way I See It

How to Evaluate 3D Fashion Technology | The Way I See It

How can apparel businesses think about artificial intelligence, when so many have yet to successfully integrate virtual technology into their product development?

If you are still making physical samples after adding 3D to your fashion design process, you need to reevaluate your 3D system and how you use it. Ram Sareen outlines four things every apparel business must look for when considering 3D fashion technology: digital patterns, 3D fit models, digital cloth, and an open system.

Adriano Goldschmied | The Godfather of Denim

Adriano Goldschmied | The Godfather of Denim

Adriano Goldschmied, the 'Godfather of Denim' joins Ram Sareen to share his secret to creating must-have denim brands, why denim is such a creative medium, and how to get the right people to buy your product.

Adriano Goldschmied earned his 'Godfather' title from working for nearly 50 years in the denim industry. In his long career he has pioneered many new techniques and styles which are still popular today, but the most notable contribution is revolutionizing how the world looks and wears this amazing fabric, denim.

Since setting up the groundbreaking King’s Shop in Cortina D’Ampezzo in the early 1970s, he hasn’t stopped creating and pushing the boundaries. He has created some of the most successful and recognizable denim brands in the world, including Goldie, A Gold E, Diesel, Replay, Gap 1969, AG Adriano Goldschmied and GoldSign.  Some of his most notable achievements include the invention of the stonewash technique, the experimentation and use of Tencel fibers, creating unprecedented super stretch denim and most importantly, starting the conversation and implementation of sustainable methods in the denim industry as early as the 1990s. Currently a member of the CFDA, Adriano is as busy and innovative as ever.

Adriano founded House of Gold with his partner, Vincenzo Marrocco in 2014.  Today House of Gold is a specializing in designing, manufacturing and distributing premium denim-inspired fabrics.  This venture has allowed Adriano to keep pushing sustainability in the denim world, while at the same time remaining at the forefront of innovation, starting from the fiber itself all the way to the finishings.
