Seether Essentials

Around the turn of the millennium, Seether emerged from South Africa with a brand of alt-metal inspired by their mid-'90s grunge ancestors. It's a mix that yields just as much tense drama as it does hard-rock bite, with singer Shaun Morgan wielding a gravelly growl on the driving “Fake It” or conveying a stirring anger on the softer, piano-led moments of “Breakdown.” But their epic ambitions are most evident on the soaring “Broken,” a poignant power ballad adorned with mournful strings and a gorgeous guest vocal from Evanescence's Amy Lee.
