    1: Lucy Eviston

    1: Lucy Eviston

Lucy is my first cousin. She was born in Ireland but grew up in Italy. She moved back to Ireland to attend college in 2014. I really wanted to chat with Lucy for the first Pursuit of Your Route Podcast because the idea behind Pursuit of Your Route derived from several conversations Lucy and I have had over the last few years.
We often spoke at length about what we wanted to do career wise. Having both done music related courses for our undergraduate degrees, we found that while we both had a passion for music, we didn't necessarily want to pursue it as a career path.
Throughout the course of this conversation, Lucy gives us a great insight into the difficulties of securing ones first choice of course after finishing secondary school. She talks about her studies and work in music production and why she decided to keep music as a passion as oppose to making it a career choice. Now studying Comparative Social Change in Dublin, Lucy explains why she feels that this course really suits her.
We discuss the pressure that secondary school students are under to attend university after finishing school and the fact that alternate options to university should be encouraged more here in Ireland.

    2: Jacqui Hurley

Jacqui Hurley is a sports broadcaster currently working with RTÉ. In this episode, we discuss her career to date. Starting out as a radio DJ with Limerick’s Live 95FM after finishing college, she has worked her way up to becoming co presenter of Sunday Sport on RTÉ Radio One and presenter and sports journalist on the Six One News. We discuss her passion for music and English growing up. We also talk about her decision to study English and Media at Mary Immaculate College and the year of placement she did at a TV station in Mississippi. As Jacqui previously played camogie for Cork and basketball for Ireland, she explains how playing sport at a high level has taught her skills that she now uses in her broadcasting career. We also speak about the importance for leaving cert students to find an outlet that allows them to switch off from study and stress during sixth year. I hope you enjoy this episode!

    3: Hugh Weldon & Ahmad Mu’azzam - Evocco Co-Founders

Hugh Weldon and Ahmad Mu’azzam are co-founders of Evocco, a smartphone app which educates consumers on the environmental impact of their food purchases and provides them with tools to help them reduce it.
Having been included in the Irish times “50 people to watch in 2019” list and Silicon Republics “Europe Start Up 100” list, Evocco has been gaining a lot of attention recently, particularly after winning the UN Young Champion of the Earth Prize last year. Therefore, there are many people looking forward to the Evocco app launch in March 2019.
In this episode, we discuss how the co-founders met at Trinity College while studying engineering. We talk about the challenges and rewards they have experienced since taking on Evocco full time in their early twenties. They talk about their efforts to secure funding and they share the advice they’d give to their 18 year old selves and to those thinking of starting and developing their own business. This episode is packed with honest advice and great insights from these two young, ambitious entrepreneurs. I really hope you enjoy it!

    4: Sophie Eustace

    4: Sophie Eustace

It was a pleasure to sit down and chat with Sophie Eustace, Account Manager at Wilson Hartnell, one of the longest established communications agencies in Ireland.
Sophie was included in The 2018 Sport for Business 30 under 30 list, which identifies individuals who will be among the next generation of Ireland’s sporting leaders. This was the first Pursuit of Your Route Podcast episode that I recorded. I recorded it in December and I’m delighted to share it with you all now.
Sophie talks about her passion for sport and music at school, her decision to take a year out after missing out on her preferred college course by just five points after the Leaving Cert and her subsequent studies in Film, English and Public Relations in UCD and DIT.
We chat about Sophie’s quick progression from Intern to Account Manager at Wilson Hartnell in just over three years and how she has managed to marry her love of sport with PR.
In this episode Sophie also describes the amazing experience she had working with the Irish Team in Pyeongchang at the 2018 Winter Olympics, where she was responsible for gathering media coverage of the Irish team and providing Irish athletes with media training.
Finally, Sophie gives current leaving cert students great advice about choosing a college course that is right for them and explains why she believes an arts degree is a good option for those who are unsure about what to study after secondary school.
I hope you enjoy this episode!

In this episode I chat with Fintan White - an organic farmer, agricultural consultant and entrepreneur. We chat about Fintan's uncertainty around what he wanted to do post Leaving Cert, his interest and studies in sustainable agriculture and his decision to go organic with his farm. Finally, Fintan gives great advice to students or graduates who are uncertain about their next step.
