Growing up in dive bars up and down the East Coast, Toni Bennette's guitar was her only companion...until she met Sebastian Quick. Seb was a little older, a lot wiser, and before long he was Toni's way out, promising they'd escape their stifling small town together. Then Seb turned eighteen and split without looking back.
Now, Toni's all grown up and making a name for herself in Philadelphia's indie scene. When a friend suggests she try out for a hot new up-and-coming band, Toni decides to take a chance. Strong, feminist, and fierce as fire, Toni B. and the Lillys are the perfect match…except Seb's now moonlighting as their manager. Whatever. Toni can handle it. No problem. Or it wouldn't be if Seb didn't still hold a piece of her heart…not to mention the key to her future.
"Fans of Daisy Jones & the Six will enjoy this rich, romantic novel."—Booklist
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
The indie music scene takes center stage in the delightful first The Lillys romance from Axelrod (When Frankie Meets Johnny). At 12, Antonia "Toni" Bennette is sent to live with her estranged father, so that her mother can chase her dreams of stardom unencumbered. Upon arriving in small town Bordon, Pa., Toni befriends 13-year-old Sebastian Quick. Over the next five years, the two bond over their love of music and their awful fathers and make a pact to escape Bordon together. But Seb breaks his promise when he disappears. Eight years later, Toni hopes to save enough money to become a partner at Philadelphia's The Phactory studio and work toward a more inclusive music industry. Despite her desire to stay out of the spotlight and avoid her mother's mistakes, Toni takes a gig as a fill-in guitarist for up-and-coming rock group The Lillys in order to raise the money. There's just one problem: Seb is their manager. And as Seb and Toni grow close once more, the past comes back to haunt them. The second-chance romance is solid, Toni's search for self-worth will draw readers in, and the distinct personalities of each of the Lillys shine. This is a gift for music lovers. Customer Reviews
This book was okay.
Would I ever read it again? No. It was a book to pass time. I wished it focus more on the love between Toni and Seb than the band. It had a lot of parts that could have been left out honestly. Not my favorite.
