Sperm donors are anonymised in British clinics. Recipients don’t even get to see a photo of the man who will father their child. Donor-conceived kids can only discover the identity of their biological father upon reaching adulthood themselves. But Mitch Kennedy is a private donor. His sperm has been used by 23 couples - and he’s met them all. In most cases, he’s slept in their spare room during the conception. He has around 40 children. In this fascinating interview with Olly, Mitch explains the logistics of his bespoke donation process, the legalities of his paternal responsibilities, and the ‘dark cloud’ that deters him from donating to hetrosexual couples... Holding The Line: Fighting Wildfires

California wildfires ripped through L.A. this year, killing 29 people, destroying more than 18,000 buildings, and putting wildland fires back into the headlines. But what’s it like being one of the poorly-paid workers sent in to risk your life to fight the flames? Wildland firefighter Nathan Bell has ‘held the line’ across the United States: in Elk City, Idaho; on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in Utah; and in the desert conditions of Sedona, Arizona. For 16 hour workdays, for weeks away from home, he will hike up a mountainside towards a raging fire with a 40 pound backpack on his shoulders, and a chainsaw over his shoulder. I’ve listened to every episode since the beginning and it’s by far the most consistent podcast in my collection in terms of quality content, audio recording (which can sometimes be distracting on other shows) and entertainment. Both Ollys (Ollie’s?) have a great rapport and although I’m not overly bothered about the Foxhole section I can see its appeal. The only suggestion I’d have for a new section would be a “weird world” feature; a five minute report on something that the mainstream news hasn’t covered. Could be a bonkers sport, weird food recipe, unusual festival/event etc. An audio-ibuprofen to the headache of the current news across the globe.

I have been a fan of this podcast for many years. Olly Mann has the very special skill of few broadcasters, switch from silly to thought provoking, some times tragic items and gives the story teller the space to tell their story. Please keep up the excellent work.

There’s nothing better than the Modern Mann to liven up a commute. I’ve loved the show for many years now - keep up the great work! Although for whatever reason, no matter where I’m driving or going on the tube, it’s always halfway through the Foxhole when I arrive, inducing paranoia.

Modern Mann is a truly unique podcast and one that you’re likely to laugh, cry and learn something new every episode. Olly Mann is a great host, and Alix and Ollie will for sure make you chuckle out loud. I was introduced to Modern Mann by my girlfriend whilst on a road trip in France - it’s fantastic for long drives or the kitchen!

Easily one of the best podcasts out there. There’s something for everyone with entertaining and revealing interviews, and quirky segments covering every possible subject you can think of. Light hearted but you always learn something. Highly recommend!
